THE ART OF SEPARATION: WHEN YOU HAVE TO LET EMPLOYEES GO
Goodbye is always the hardest word. So hard, that virtually all professionals will tolerate poor behavior and performance from an employee for far longer than they should. As a result, the practice can suffer. In fact, the doctor can be exposed to legal liability that could have been avoided by prompt attention to the issue. This presentation addresses the real art that can be used to separate employees in a dignified way that allows them to retain their dignity and also dramatically reduces the likelihood of post-termination consequences for the practice. Covered topics include an overview of hot legal issues in termination of employees, development of affirmative policies, use of “decision day” practices and final affirmative agreements, severance agreements, and much more.

WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU HEAR THE WORD “HARASSMENT”
The most explosive word in employment today is “harassment.” Often, the boss hears the word through the grapevine. Someone is complaining she is being harassed. Co-workers are disturbed. What do you do? How you address this knowledge can be critical. Professional practices are subject to a far higher percentage of harassment suits than the numbers would suggest. This is probably because of the high percentage of younger – and older – female employees in the offices. In this presentation, Mike will give an overview of the legal sources if harassment claims through case study illustrations, explain how to set up a employee concern system, address the specifics of an inquiry and response to complaints of harassment, and guide you through a typical situation.
